Top Dolphins Receiver, Chris Chamber’s DWI Court Date Set for August 15
Chris Chambers, who has spent six years as a top receiver for the Miami Dolphins was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of DWI, reckless driving, and speeding. Chambers’ attorney faced the judge in a Charlotte, North Carolina, Mecklenburg County courtroom on Monday, July 16, though Chambers himself did not attend. The case was delayed a month and will resume on August 15.
Chambers was pulled over and taken into custody for the aforementioned charges at 2:31 a.m. on July 14. Chambers was initially pulled over because he was clocked driving 74 mph in a 45 mph zone. While pulled over, he refused to take a Breathalyzer test and didn’t pass the other, basic sobriety tests.
These are his first set of legal woes since he started playing for the Dolphins back in 2001. However, he is not the first Dolphins player to be arrested during this off-season. In fact, he’s the second in less than three weeks to be arrested, though his stellar record lends credo to the fact that there is a good chance Chambers will not end up like the other “problematic” Dolphins’ player.
Defensive tackle, Fred Evans, lost his place on the team since he has been arrested two times in three months. The latest arrest occurred on June 23. Evans was charged with disorderly conduct, trespassing, resisting arrest with violence, and battery against a police officer. With such disturbing charges, it seems logical that the Dolphins would not want Evans representing them.
Chambers’ bail had been set at $1,750, which he paid and was subsequently released. He was initially pulled over south of the downtown Charlotte area and was released sometime on Saturday. Upon arrival at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Station, Chris was given a Breathalyzer test, which, according to a police department spokesperson, he passed. With this in mind, and the fact that this is a first offense, it is likely he will receive nothing more than a minor slap on the wrist in the form of a fine.
Chris Chambers is the number one receiver for the Miami Dolphins. He’s led the NFL in the top ten for Rush/Receive TDs in 2003, and Receiving TDs in 2003 and 2005. More details will be listed as updates become available on this story.
