Quinn Signs Contract that Could Equal up to $30 Million with Incentives
Brady Quinn has come to an agreement with the Cleveland Browns and will sign a $20.2 Million contract with $7.75 Million guaranteed that will put an end to his holdout. The five year contract has the ability to grow to $30 Million with incentives. The contract was signed Tuesday night and ended a holdout of 11 days. Due to the fact that Quinn has missed as many days as he has, he essentially eliminated any shot he had of beginning the season as the team’s starter.
As the terms have been negotiated, Quinn flew from Arizona to the Browns’ training facility. He will have a chance to begin practicing on Wednesday afternoon, after a press conference that will announce the deal.
The question is will Quinn be able to make up the time he has lost? He not only missed the first 10 days of camp, but he also struggled significantly in the spring workouts and mini-camps. This leads people to wonder just how far behind Quinn really is.
Based on price alone, one could easily assume that the Browns have hopes of Quinn playing up to par and becoming a strong quarterback for the Browns franchise. The Browns general manager feels that Quinn, 22, possesses a strong work ethic and intelligence. This is why Savage wanted Quinn. He also feels that these qualities will help him catch up in the coming weeks.
The head coach of the Browns, Coach Romeo Crennel is singing another. Crennel apparently does not refer to Quinn by name, but rather, “the quarterback”. Crennel has been quoted as saying that Quinn is pretty far behind. Quinn will be placed at the bottom of the list and they will see where he goes from there. However, he will not be placed on the first team.
Quinn not only missed ten days of training, but he also missed the four day rookie orientation, as well. Quinn was holding out for a minimum of $8 million in guaranteed money. This was about the same offer that was given to the #20 pick, Aaron Ross, which he received from the NY Giants.
