Brazil Sole Bidder for 2014 World Cup in South America

by

World Cup Football FieldWhere will the World Cup be in 2014? If all goes well, it might head across the Atlantic to Brazil. The South American country, which is known for its outstanding football team, has officially placed a bid to host the World Cup for the 2014 FIFA Games. The bid was submitted this week in Zurich before a FIFA board. A special Brazilian delegation first spent 30 minutes visually presenting their bid. Then they turned a dossier with further details over to the FIFA board to examine and make a determination on their request.

Now, it is up to FIFA to decide whether they are going to allow Brazil to host the games. Before officials for the primary world football association can decide they must go on an inspection of Brazil to make sure the country is suitable to host the games. It is likely that this will occur sometime late next month or in early September of this year.

In October (the 29th of this year), it will be the last chance for the CBF to present their case for why Brazil should be the host country. On the 30th of October, FIFA will decide what country will be hosting the 2014 games and whether Brazil wins the chance to do so or not. In a game that is prominent in Europe, this would be a major step forward by bring the games across the sea if Brazil were to win the bid. FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, reflects his feeling on this by stating Football brings nations together and to bring the world to Brazil means there is hope for football in the Americas.

The World Cup is held every four years, with the next game occurring in 2010 in South Africa. The World Cup has been held since 1930. The only years without a world cup were those affected the most by WWII. This was in 1942 and 1946. The bid by Brazil would be fitting, considering the Brazil team has won more than any other in World Cup history with five wins. Brazil has a good chance of winning their bid as they are the only team to submit a bid after Columbia withdrew from the bidding process.
